Bergfeld Recreation has been family owned and operated since 1961 when Chuck Bergfeld, president and CEO, opened our home office on Manchester Rd. Throughout the 60’s and 70’s we solidified ourselves as one St. Louis’ leading playground experts, concentrating on commercial playground equipment for parks and schools.

In the 1980’s, when wooden playsets were first introduced to the residential market, we became the first company to offer these high quality, residential systems to families in the St. Louis area. Since our inception in 1961 we have had tremendous success because we have always offered the newest innovations in commercial and residential playground equipment.

As we grew and became known for our high quality products and excellent customer service we decided to expand to the Kansas City area. In 1993 Steve and Candra Grider opened our second location in Riverside, MO. So we could serve even more of the Midwest.

Over the past 14 years the Kansas City area has generated a great deal of interest in our company thanks to the hard work and dedication of Steve and Candra. Our Kansas City location has done so well that they are expanding to a new, larger office in 2007. As the Kansas City area has grown, so has the St. Louis area.

When St. Charles and the surrounding counties really started booming we started seeing more and more families from those areas. In 2003 we opened our St. Peters location to give families from those areas a more convenient location to get their ideal playset. Gary Peterson has been with us since 1990 and now runs the St. Peters location.

As we have expanded over the past 46 years we have also broadened the products we offer to include commercial and residential playground equipment, site furnishings, sports equipment, day care equipment, vinyl and aluminum fencing, shelters, trampolines and safety surfacing.
