Every March, basketball fans across St. Louis gather around TVs to watch the excitement of the NCAA tournament. Buzzer beaters, bracket busting upsets, and championship dreams make March Madness one of the most exciting times of the year for sports fans. For many families, it also sparks something else: the desire to step outside and play the game themselves. That’s why so many families start thinking about installing basketball hoops St. Louis homeowners can rely on for years of backyard fun.
Bergfeld Recreation believe the best way to enjoy basketball isn’t just watching it, it’s playing it with your kids, neighbors, and friends right at home. With our March Madness basketball hoop sale, it’s the perfect time to bring the excitement of the tournament to your own driveway or backyard.
Why Basketball Is Perfect for Family Play
Basketball has always been one of the most accessible sports for families. All you need is a hoop, a ball, and a little open space to get started. Kids of all ages can participate, and the game naturally encourages practice, creativity, and friendly competition.
Beyond the fun, basketball offers several important benefits for kids:
-
Builds coordination and balance
-
Develops teamwork and communication skills
-
Encourages healthy daily activity
-
Boosts confidence and perseverance
Health organizations consistently emphasize how important active play is for children. According to MedlinePlus, regular physical activity helps improve heart health, strengthen muscles and bones, and support overall mental well-being in children.
Having a basketball hoop at home makes it easy for kids to get active without needing scheduled practices or organized leagues.
Why More St. Louis Families Are Installing In-Ground Hoops
Many families start with portable hoops from big-box stores. While they can work temporarily, parents often discover the limitations quickly.
Portable hoops may:
-
Tip over during aggressive play
-
Shift out of position
-
Wear down quickly with weather exposure
In contrast, in-ground basketball hoops offer stability, durability, and a professional playing experience. These systems are anchored into concrete, creating a solid foundation that allows kids to play confidently and safely.
Families who install permanent hoops often notice the difference immediately: the hoop doesn’t wobble, the backboard feels consistent, and the system is built to handle years of daily play.

Built for Midwest Weather
St. Louis weather can be unpredictable. Summer heat, spring rainstorms, and winter freeze–thaw cycles all take a toll on outdoor equipment.
That’s why the basketball systems offered by Bergfeld Recreation are designed with durable materials that stand up to Midwest conditions.
Features often include:
-
Weather-resistant powder-coated steel
-
Durable tempered glass backboards
-
Adjustable height mechanisms
-
Rust-resistant hardware
These systems are built for long-term performance so families can focus on playing instead of worrying about maintenance.
Turn March Madness Into Family Madness
The NCAA tournament inspires millions of young athletes every year. Kids watch incredible plays on television and naturally want to recreate those moments outside.
With a basketball hoop at home, families can turn the excitement of March Madness into their own traditions.
Imagine:
-
Practicing free throws during halftime
-
Hosting neighborhood bracket competitions
-
Playing games of HORSE in the driveway
-
Recreating buzzer-beaters with friends
A basketball hoop becomes more than just sports equipment—it becomes the center of family activity.
Safety and Quality Matter
Any piece of recreational equipment should be installed with safety and durability in mind. Organizations that develop recreation standards emphasize the importance of proper installation and equipment quality.
The American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) develops standards that help guide the safety and durability of sports and recreation equipment used in communities and homes.
Following established safety guidelines helps ensure equipment performs as expected and reduces risks during active play.
Why Professional Installation Makes a Difference
Installing an in-ground basketball hoop involves more than simply placing a pole in the ground. Proper installation ensures long-term performance and stability.
Professional installation includes:
-
Correct concrete footing depth
-
Accurate leveling of the system
-
Proper spacing from driveways or courts
-
Secure anchoring for long-term durability
This is especially important in regions like Missouri where soil conditions and seasonal temperature changes can affect structures over time.
At Bergfeld Recreation, our team handles the installation process so families can focus on enjoying the game.
